What is a Blog?
For the uninitiated, a blog is an online 'web log' or diary - often in
the form of a personal journal but sometimes used simply as a convenient way of recording
important or newsworthy events.
Blogging Software
Blogs are often written with the aid of specialised 'blogging'
programs which make the process more convenient, and help to provide links to other blogs
- written by other people or other organisations. This site uses 'Wordpress' as its
blogging 'engine'.
RSS Feeds
Closely associated with the practice of 'blogging' is the concept of
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) which allows information feeds, in XML format, to be
plugged into a web page so that the page is automatically updated in response to updates
in the remote information feed. Dedicated blogging software usually incorporates the
facility to supply and receive information feeds along these lines.
RSS Inegrators
An 'RSS Integrator' is a piece of software whose function is to
provide links to a range of remote RSS information feeds, bringing them together in an
easy-to-use format in a single location. Some blogging software incorporates its own RSS
integrator. Wordpress, the software used on this site, incorporates its own useful RSS
integrator.

Creating Your Own Blog
The most popular blogs are amusing, or are informative on
a subject of widespread interest - or preferably both - but the subjectmatter of a blog is
really up to the author. So, if you think you can create and maintain your own interesting
blog, why not create it at 'PPS Portal - Blog Central' by going HERE
(At first - for reasons of legality and good taste - your
blogs will be 'moderated' - ie they will be checked by the site administrator before being
published on the website. However, do not let this inhibit you too much. Crushing your
innate enthusiasm and creativity is the last thing we want to do. And the best blogs are
sometimes quite controversial!)
